The grassflats in the sound have been producing redfish after redfish. Today, I took the yak over to one of my favorite spots and tried out the gold spoon. With the stickit out and me standing up on the seat, I could see the reds slammin the spoon. What a cool sight! I sat for 30min on the same spot and hooked five reds. One had to be 30+in as he brought the 3000 down to half spool. It killed me when he came off! At the end of the day, I had 5 reds in the boat and lost 3. Great day on the water!

I have been desperately trying to catch Redfish near the Navarre bridge but been largley unsucessful. I keep hearing people talk of the grass flats and how they produce a good number of Reds. SInce I’ve only been a resident here for about 3 years, can somebody please tell me where these flats are and where to fish for Bull Reds?
Here’s my suggestion. Get on the water before the sun is up and throw a topwater. I like a skitterwalk. Make your casts about a foot in front of a dock and work it slow. If nothing happens, try closer to shore. Maybe 6in of water. A lot of the times, you’ll see wakes going in and out of a piling. When the sun does come up, switch to a gold spoon or a twitchbait. I have a Gulp ready to go just in case a red sneaks up on me. Also, try and stand up on your yak and sightfish them. The grassflats run all along the North side of the sound. There’s a bunch on the South side too. Hope this helps!

dunn…this helps a lot!
Since I don’t have a kayak I’m limited to fishing from the shore. I have caught one Bull Red about 26 lbs. under the Navarre bridge but that was back in March and lately the bait fish seem to be striping the bait from the hook before I can get any action.
I also had luck once down in a little lagoon by the radar station by ther back pavillion adjacent to Navarre beach. I typically fish with shrimp but always carry fleas in case I end up on the beach looking for Pompano. I have a gold spoon as well as a top water plug which I think is a skitter walk.
Any suggestions for fishing anywhere from Navarre to say Gulf Breeze? I’m also not opposed to heading down to P-Cola and fishing the docks down there.
