What a week!! I’m sure glad the wind and weather finally calmed down enough for me to be able to get back on the water! Today I was joined by Dan Coyle, Greg McMurtry and Andrew Grech. We decided to follow the predictable pattern of the spawning Sheepshead and load the cooler with some of these wonderful tasting fish. With a strong West wind predicted to blow through around noon we had to get on em and get on em fast.

We rocketed towards the North rocks and quickly started loading the box with solid 3-4lb fish. We couldn’t seem to locate the larger fish I have been catching in weeks past, but these were a quality grade of fish and a welcome guest aboard the South Again. After about two hours of catching we decided to try and land a few large Bull reds to add some color to our day. Unfortunately I struck out on the reds. We tried all the local hot spots in the Pass but just couldn’t seem to get away from the Sheepies.

Back to plan “A” we headed back to the North Rocks and went back to catching again. With our cooler stuffed and our arms tired I decided to hit one of my favorite Snapper spots in the Bay and try for something a little different. 1st drop all three rods double over and drags start screaming………………… up comes more sheepshead. With them in the cooler we turned her towards the East and slowly made our way back to the launch in a building West chop.

Another great day on the water!

……………………….See you out there

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to be able to donate a fishing trip to the Wounded Warrior Foundation. The trip was Thursday and was set up to become an amazing event. The WWF and the IFA joined up to host this trip out of Legendary Marine in Destin.

We had six Captains show up to take out the 10 warriors and their families. My plan for the day was to get my guys on fish and LOTS of them. I was joined by Lance Gieselmann and Ryan and Jim Carr. We blasted out of Legendary and headed West towards the pass. We quickly found a few large schools of Spanish, we were able to troll up a couple but the bite quickly shut off. We also found a small school of Redfish nearby and quickly boat a few fish out of it! The rest of the day was alot of fun, especially once we found our selves sitting in the middle of about an acre of Spanish.

This was a great event that I will participate in again next year. I was honored to have these Soldiers on board with me and I am very thankful for their service and sacrifice. These Men have deserve our respect.

I didn’t have a trip today so Dawna convinced me to take her and our good friend Jenny out to catch a few fish! We launched around noon and made our run. We were quickly boating Bull Reds pushing 25lbs. After that we followed the same pattern that has been successful for me all week and headed towards the North Rocks to land a few Sheepies. We caught Sheepies, Black Drum, Red Snapper and Red Grouper all on the rocks.

It was a fun trip and was great to see the girls put the whacking on those big Bull reds!!

………. see you out there

The weather was excellent and the fishing was even better this weekend. The sheepshead fishing has only got better and better with the bigger ones showing up. A bunch of bull redfish schools have also shown up in the bay and out along the beach.
On Friday I took Rick and his family fishing who were here on vacation staying at Portofino. Along with many others we started off fishing in the Pass for sheepshead. It’s awesome fishing out there with all the boats watching everyone catch fish. Anyway the crew caught sheepshead until they got tired of it and we made the decision to do a little bottom fishing in the bay for snapper and grouper. Hit three spots and found plenty of fish, can’t wait for snapper season!

Saturday Arthur and his son who are locals went fishing with me, they wanted to get some meat in the freezer and have fun doing it. Headed to Pensacola Pass and had no problem catching sheepshead. We also landed the biggest bull red I’ve caught all year, it’s was huge! Arthur has his own Sea Hunt Boat, but sure enjoyed not having to clean fish or wash the boat.

The bite this week has been amazing and today was no exception. Maria Patti, Christian Danforth, James and John David Elliot met me at shoreline park at 10am ready to go!! We quickly headed towards the North Rocks where the bites has been on fire. We were pleased to see that there was only one boat there when we arrived. We boated 7 large sheepshead on live shrimp in a matter of minutes. The Sheepies were all between 4-6lbs and hungry!

After putting a few fish on ice we headed off to mess with the large schools of Bull Reds that have been very predictable this week. Once we made it to the area, the Reds were there as they have been all week long and they were HUNGRY!! We chased and sight fished em for about 2 hours, landing 6 and breaking off a few others. With my crews arms tired we headed back to the north rocks to finish off a cooler of Sheepshead.

Another great day on the water, another great charter and another reason I love being a Guide!!

……………………See you out there

A few times in a Guides life come along where he gets to fish with guys like I was honored enough to fish with today! Mr. John Boivin and Mr. Jim Buchli joined me today for a quick Sheepshead whacking trip. After the fog lifted and we had good visibility we fired the Yamaha F250 up and blasted off towards the Pass.

When we arrived we were the only boat in the area and the wind and current were both dead still. First drop Mr. John hooked a fine 6lb Sheepshead and it was game on! We sat and picked at the Sheepies for about 3 hours with a slow but steady bite! We managed to boat 18 nice fish without much trouble. We then decided to change gears and go try to boat a few Bay red Snapper before heading home. I pulled up on the first spot and the bite was RED HOT!! We caught snapper on almost every drop. They were not all that big but lots of fun on the light tackle we were using today!

After catching a dozen or so Snapper we decided to call it a day and head home. Today was a great day with great people and I really hope I have the chance to fish with these guys again in the future!

……………..See you out there
