After a week off, South Again Charters was back on the water! Joined by Greg, Lindsey, Patrick, Rob and Michelle we headed towards the Pass on a 4 hour AJ trip. Luckily we found the hard tails fairly thick around the Pass and were able to fill the well in a very short period of time.

After gathering our bait we pointed the boat South for our quick 7 mile run, first drop of the morning was a triple hook up!!! Two Jacks and a very nice Snapper! The bite stayed hot for us for about 2 hours Boating a total of 6 Jacks and a few nice Snapper! Once the AJ bite slowed down we tried a few Snapper spots looking for triggers and Black Snapper but just couldn’t get em to cooperate!

Another great day on the water!

Another windy day and another great mess of fish! Today I was joined by Jay, Jacob and Patricia Pepperman for a 6 hour inshore trip. We ran to the Pass and quickly found large schools of Spanish around the Coast Guard Station. After putting a dozen or so on ice, we headed over to the Pass to land a few Redfish. It really seems like the Redfish bite is starting to pick back up. The last few trips have resulted in several catches, today we had our best results on hand sized pinfish and Bull Minnows.

A few releases under our belts we headed over to the North rocks to try and catch a few Flounder. They did not seem to want to do it for me today. We drifted for around 45 minutes but only caught small snapper and one large Stingray. Right about when we were gonna make a move the Spanish popped back up right in the Pass and that finished the day off for us. We sat and caught Spanish, Ladyfish and small kings for the last hour and a half!

Another great day on the water with a wonderful group, life is good!!

WINDY!!!!!

With West winds around 20 mph I knew we would be very limited in where we could fish today, but I felt confident we could find something to catch. Brent and Kelan Stepp joined me for their second trip with me this year! To avoid the Winds we launched from Galvez Landing and headed the Pass.

After three drifts we got the bite we wanted and Brent was hooked into a beautiful 18lb Redfish!! After several more drifts we had an awesome double hook up, we lost one fish to the rocks and continued to chase the larger fish that young Kelan was working on. After a long fight we were surprised to see a 40lb Sting ray, not what we were after but an awesome none the less!!

After a few more empty drifts we headed over to the North rocks to finish up our 4 hour trip. We managed to catch a nice Flounder, a small cobia and a ton of Small Red Snapper. We did hook into two fish that we never turned and can only guess what they were!

I have been lucky enough the last few trips to have Father and Son teams on the boat. It always reminds me how important that fishing with my Father was to me as a kid and how it lead me to where I am today!!

Spanish, Spanish and some more Spanish!! Today Mark Seifert and his son Mark Jr. joined me for a 4 hour inshore trip. As we headed towards the Pass we noticed that the entire south shoreline of Pensacola BAy was covered in Spanish Mackerel. We quickly rigged our rods with Diamond Jigs on heavy flourocarbon and got after them! We caught a steady stream of Spanish for the first two hours of the trip!

With enough in the box for dinner we switched gears and went looking for Flounder. The flounder bite has been really slow the last few weeks in the Pass with only a few keepers being caught here and there, so after about 45 minutes trying them we decided to finish up the day catching Redfish back near Gulf Breeze. We pitched docks for the last hour of the trip and only had three small Redfish to show for our efforts. While the rat reds were alot of fun to catch they did nothing to help with our fish for the dinner table.

This was another really fun trip with a great Father and Son team!!

No charter booked today so Dawna and I raced offshore this morning to scout for new spots. Since Inshore guides are not allowed to take charters outside of State waters we have to spend alot of time looking for very productive spots inside the 9 mile mark. The plan today was to try and find some new Snapper spots for next season and some AJ spots for the remainder of this season.

I would have to say that we had a very productive day scouting! We locayed three new wrecks that I usually do not fish and caught a ton of beautiful Snapper and all three were holding some Jacks. We were whooped by most of them and just couldn’t get them turned but Dawna did manage to boat one nice one around 0900!

All in all a great scouting trip with my girl!!

Another couple fun trips! i have been running alot of 4 hour trips here lately and having pretty good success in the short window! Thursday was a fun Spanish mackerel trip. We fished down the Beach to the East and found very large schools of Spanish. Lure selection did not seem to make a big difference. We threw Diamond Jigs and Pompano jigs mostly! With about 30 minutes left we hit the Flounder hole and quickly boated one small fish and lost another near the boat.

Yesterday was the coolest trip you can get!! A catch and release Snapper trip. We ran about 7 miles SE and quickly began catching and releasing Snapper. I had hoped the guys would catch some monsters but it seemed like the 4 – 6lbers were all we could find! It was a great trip! Here are a few pics from yesterday!
