What an exciting trip! Today John and his son J.P booked me for an artificial only Redfish day! We fished together earlier in the week in the Pass for reds and Flounder so today they wanted to go after them on an even playing field!! The morning started out a little sketchy with Big storms moving in out of the SW and the winds blowing pretty hard out of the same direction.

We decided to try it anyway and see what we could come up with! Our first stop of the morning was on a leeward flat that has produced some good fish for me through the years. Fifth cast was a small redfish but J.P’s first on artificial. We fished on looking for large schools of mullet and picked a few fish here and there for the first few hours. The bite was not on fire by no means but was just steady enough to keep our attention. Around 10 am we switched gears and found a few protected areas with a little deeper water and started tossing GULP! shrimp on 1/4oz jigheads. We caught several more slot fish and got whooped by one monster fish that we couldn’t stop on the light 10lb Braid.

Total count was 7 redfish and two trout

I love artificial only trips and this one was no exception. John and J.P are alot of fun to fish with and I enjoyed every minute of our two days together!!

Another day, another Inshore Slam with South Again charters!! Today I guided Ben on a six hour trip. We met at Shoreline Park early in anticipation of catching a good Trout bite in Santa Rosa Sound. We started out throwing Topwaters and Mirrodines in 3′-5′ 0f water and found a really consistent bite. Unfortunately the fish were mostly 12″-14″ fish and a barely keeper mixed in occasionally. We worked the grass flats from the Sound to Big Lagoon boating around 18 to 20 trout and a slot redfish by 9 o’clock.

We then switched gears and went in to Flounder mode. The Flounder seem to have started to move out of the deeper water in the Pass the last few days so we targeted them on Docks and Piers. The bite was very slow and we were only able to land two small fish to put in the cooler. The catfish seem to have moved in thick on all my favorite structure so we changed gears again and went for our Redfish.

After a few blank drifts we finally got bit. We managed a double header of Slot fish and called it a day. The tide is a little off right now and the bite is not as hot as it has been in the last few weeks. But we managed to fight and put a nice cooler full of fish together for Ben and his family!

Started out to a VERY foggy bay this morning. It was slow leaving bayou chico but pretty soon we had shrimp in the water. Trout action was ok and we put a few keepers in the box in the 16″ to 18″ range. We lost a bigger fish at the boat. We fished slowing from spot to spot and finally found a great bite of nice quality spanish. Live shrimp under popping corks got us lots of bites and we left with 10-12 nice fish. The weather looks great for the weekend, good luck everybody!

I took Derek and his friend’s inshore fishing on Saturday 3/12. We started out fishing around Pensacola Pass and landed some sheepshead. Then we move up into Pensacola Bay looking for red snapper and grouper and had no trouble finding them. Only fished two different spots and easily could have had a keeper limit of red snapper and a few keeper gags. Bobby brought in one of the biggest groupers I’ve caught in the bay in a while. Check out one of my photo’s where one snapper ate two baits and was hooked twice.

Let me start off by saying WOW!!! Today was an amazing day. My good friend Jason is heading off to the Army at the end of the month and was in need of some much needed Saltwater therapy!! Even though the winds were gusting close to 25 mph out of th WNW we felt we could catch a few!!

We left out of Shoreline at around 7:30am and headed to East. We fought the wind and the building chop for 4 1/2 hours without ever seeing a fish. As the weather man predicted the winds made a shift to Due North around noon and laid down to 15 mph or so. That’s when it got good. As soon as the winds died and the sun started to heat up the flats it seemed as if the Redfish came outta no where. We saw schools of fish today bigger than any I have seen in the Sound in a LONG LONG time!!

The keys to success today were working docks and structure slowly throwing GULP! shrimp and jerkshad in camo and new penny!
Great day, Great friend and Great fishing!!!!

Jason, had a great time with you today. Good luck in you future endeavors and THANK YOU for you service!!!! RLTW

My friend Trevor wanted to try this kayaking thing, so I took him out to some flats. We got on the water before sunrise and threw out some topwaters. The sun came up rather quickly so we switched to the gold spoon. Man was this ever the bait of choice! I guess I had all the luck since I pulled a redfish out of every other dock. First fish was a beauty. He ripped the line off the 3000 and went for a dock. Luckily, he turned south and started to give in. He came up boatside and I pulled him out.

Perfect upper slot

At the next dock, it only took about 3 casts to find another. Got him to the yak and grabbed the camera. Another beauty

We continue our drift and work an area that looks fishy. I threw two times at the same spot and didn’t hook up. 3rd time was the charm and a red swipes the spoon. Good lookin fish for sure.

Trevor is getting pretty frustrated as he hasn’t hooked anything. He finally gets a red to eat and fights him to the boat. Another nice slot

We drift to the last set of docks and deploy the stickit. I stood up on my seat to see if I could spot anything. I throw blindly and once again, a red takes the bait. Near the boat, I could see two more swimming with him. I yell to Trevor to throw in for a chance at a double. We could see the fish rush his spoon but he didn’t eat. Oh well…I landed mine and took a pic

Wind was kickin, so I threw in one more time.  Right in front of the yak, I watched a speck eat the spoon! Quick fight and he’s done.
