The fish are biting!!! Went on a Scouting trip yesterday with a couple good friends of mine. Bryson, Mark and I left out of Shoreline Park at around 0630 and headed off in search of bait. In no time we had a livewell full of Pinfish, Hardtails and Threadfin, with the bait situation covered we pointed the boat SE and blasted off. It was a beautiful morning with very calm seas and very mild temperatures.

We had one of the wildest days ever, seemed like everything we tried worked. The idea was to locate some new spots that I don’t usually fish for some upcoming charters and put a few fish in the cooler for Bryson and Mark. Out of 7 of the 8 wrecks we fished all were holding Grouper and really nice Snapper. Two were holding some smaller legal Jacks and Triggers. After hitting all the planned spots we were running back in to the Triggerfish hole to put a few fish in the box when we ran over a really nice trash line at about 7 miles Due South of Pensacola Pass.

Three or four logs all together were holding tons of nice size chicken dolphin and one log was holding 8-10 Tripletail. After boating a dozen or so of the Dolphin we went after the Tripletail. We boated 5 of them fairly quickly they were just all an inch or two shy of legal.

This was a great day on the water, a great success as a scouting trip and a wonderful day spent with Friends solving the Worlds problems!!!

Thanks Bryson and Mark for the company, lets do it again real soon.

……………………….. See you out there

Inshore/Nearshore Charters

We have been fishing for red snapper almost every day lately. The weather has been good and the snapper have been big and everywhere! A variety of live and dead baits like butterflied menhaden, live croakers, pinfish, and threadfins have all been productive. Along with red snapper we are also catching scamp, mingos and some trigger fish to add a little variety to the box. Get out there while you can, snapper season will be over before you know it!

Sorry for the lack of reports from us lately, we have been swamped! I fished with Dr. Brian, his seven year old twin sons, and their grandpa yesterday Saturday 6/11.  We left the dock at 6:30 a.m., stopped by and got some live cigar minnows from the bait boat, and were on our spot by 7:15.  It didn’t take long and we had our four person limit of red snapper, also caught a king, some gags, and a shark on the snapper spot in 90 feet of water. Left their and ran to the buoys for some king action, caught a couple pretty quick slow trolling with live cigars and made our way back to the dock in time for lunch.

Today Sunday 6/12 I fished with a good customer from the store Rob, his wife, and their friends from Atlanta. We headed out at 6:30, swung by the bait boat and got a live well from of cigar minnows from Tony, and went after the red snapper. We fished a few different spots in 85-95 feet of water 9-12 miles east of Pensacola Pass and had no trouble catching our limit of red snapper. Also, got into some nice black snapper that we chummed up using chunked menhaden, caught them free lining on 20 pound braid.  On our way in we made a few drifts through the pass and the tide was perfect, but we didn’t get a bite.

Hot Spots Inshore 5/16/2011

Inshore fished with Jerry and his two sons, they had been all over the place going on fishing charters including Hawaii, Jamaica, and walleye fishing up north. The weather forecast said it was going to blow 15-20, but it was super nice throughout the entire day. The guys wanted to catch some big fish and be able to take something home for dinner as well. We gave the bottom fish a break and went after redfish and flounder. We worked on the bull reds pretty good and then moved onto slot reds and flounder. We ended up with a limit of slot redfish all between 25” and 27” and a handful of flounder. Got some croakers and tried to finish the day up with a big trout to complete our slam and got a couple bites, but didn’t make it happen…

With trips starting to book up again, I needed to make a quick scouting trip today to locate some great fish. My good friend Alan joined me for a trip as we headed out of Pensacola Pass at around 0900 and struck off due South towards some nearshore reefs that have produced great fish for me in the past. First stop, first drop Alan is put to the Gunwales on a 60lb. outfit and never stops the fish!!

This happens several times to each of us as we lose battle after battle to large Snapper and Grouper. After a few drops a piece we get back at em and boat a beautiful 18lb Red Snapper and Giant 12lb Gag Grouper! With Red Snapper season opening on June 1st this spot is gonna be a winner! There are countless red Snapper in the Gulf right now and this small spot proves it! This year is gonna be the shortest Red Snapper season yet so remember to book your trips with your favorite Charter Captain soon. With only 48 days to catch these awesome fish Days are gonna book fast!

Had the pleasure of being invited to Cobia fish aboard the HEBE out of Destin Sunday. She is a gorgeous 45′ G&S and was a blast to fish from. We had a slow day going 3-8 but it was a great time watching Dawna and Jenny smoke these fish!!!
