Is it just me or was it HOT today??? Today I was joined by Melissa, Dustin and Paxton on a 6 hour trip. With the bite in the Pass all but dead and very little Tidal movement, I knew we would have to change our strategy up today. We started out chasing trout and had no problems finding them. First stop we were catching really small ones every other cast. Seemed like the fish liked the 3′-5′ of water the best and that’s the depth that produced our best results.

After weeding through about 20 small ones we started getting a little better grade of fish. Young Paxton boated a 20″ fish followed shortly by a 21″ fish. We also boated several small Spanish and a Ladyfish on the flats as well! Once the bite slowed down around 8:30 we moved out to the Gulf to try our hands at a little light tackle trolling. We trolled small diving plugs on Trout tackle and had a blast!! First bite was a 15lb King that Paxton whooped on 10lb braid in no time! After that we boated Spanish after Spanish for nearly two hours with an additional King hook up later in the day. The second King broke our light wire leader right before we could boat him! After filling the cooler with Mackerel we decided to try the redfish and Flounder in the Pass but in a solid hour of trying we never got one single bite. I had a blast with these guys today and hope they come back to see me again real soon!!

What an exciting trip! Today John and his son J.P booked me for an artificial only Redfish day! We fished together earlier in the week in the Pass for reds and Flounder so today they wanted to go after them on an even playing field!! The morning started out a little sketchy with Big storms moving in out of the SW and the winds blowing pretty hard out of the same direction.

We decided to try it anyway and see what we could come up with! Our first stop of the morning was on a leeward flat that has produced some good fish for me through the years. Fifth cast was a small redfish but J.P’s first on artificial. We fished on looking for large schools of mullet and picked a few fish here and there for the first few hours. The bite was not on fire by no means but was just steady enough to keep our attention. Around 10 am we switched gears and found a few protected areas with a little deeper water and started tossing GULP! shrimp on 1/4oz jigheads. We caught several more slot fish and got whooped by one monster fish that we couldn’t stop on the light 10lb Braid.

Total count was 7 redfish and two trout

I love artificial only trips and this one was no exception. John and J.P are alot of fun to fish with and I enjoyed every minute of our two days together!!

More inshore slams with South Again charters! Today I guided John and his wonderful family. John, Lana, J.P and Asa met me at shoreline launch at 0630 and we quickly blasted off to the East in search of our first species for the day! We had no problem finding trout early, we boated a dozen or so in quick order with young J.P and Asa leading the pack hooking one every couple of casts!

Once the bite started to slow down we made the long run back West towards the Pass in search of Reds and Flounder. The Redfish bite was little slow to start the morning so after a few blank drifts we moved over to the Founder grounds to put a few fish in the cooler. The bite was a little slow, but consistent enough to keep us there. We had fun landing a few different species, including Red Snapper, Gag Grouper, Puffer fish and of course the Flounder we were after!! Even though the biggest one we caught was given to us by Capt. Brant Peacher..LOL!

After messing with the Flounder and only needing Redfish for a possible multiple Slam day we headed back over to the Pass. First Drift John hooks a beautiful Redfish and that was enough to complete his First Inshore slam. He was followed closely by his son J.P who battled and beat a 28″ fish!! That also completed his first ever inshore slam. We did have another one on for a few minutes that would have made three slams but before we could boat the fish she threw the hook!!

Another wonderful day in Florida!!!

Kind of a slow day today but we made it happen. Today I guided Brady and Anthony on a quick four hour trip. We had planned to run offshore and catch a quick limit of Snapper but an early morning storm kept us in the Pass.

The Reds didin’t want to seem to bite at first but after an hour we did manage four good bites. We broke off two and the hook pulled on another. It just wasn’t our day for reds. There was very little tide movement today and those fish are 100% tide driven. After that we cruised over to my favorite Flounder hole and boated 6 fish before it was time to head back in!!!

Not the day I had hoped for but we managed to boat a nice mess of fish and return home safely!!

Another fun day on the water!! Today I fished with Kendall, Kristan, Karly, James and Olivia on a short little four hour trip! We left Galvez landing at a round 9:30 am and shot off to Pensacola Pass. Once we arrived the tide had started to go slack and I knew this was gonna be a tough trip!

We first tried to get a Bull red but they had just were not biting!! I had been telling the Kids the whole ride out how big they were so I was a little bummed out that they had shut down by the time we got there. After wasting an hour on the reds we moved over to try and start catching a few Flounder, we quickly boated one and then went into Snapper and Soap Fish mode for a while. It was very difficult to stay pinned to my plan knowing that the tide had stopped and the bite wouldn’t pick up for an hour or so.

Shortly after, the tide started to slowly trickle back out and the bite started to come alive. We boated a few more Flounder, lost a few more Flounder and caught more catfish then I have seen in the Pass in quite a while. After the tide stated to move good and we got close to time to call it quits. I decided to add a free hour on to the end of the trip to try and land that Bull red I had been telling everyone about. Sure enough third drift through the Pass she hit!!!! It was a perfect 22lb fish on 10lb Braid that gave us fits trying to get on the boat! It was a fun trip despite a slow bite and I never grow tired of the questions that Young ones came come up with while on the water!!!!

It’s not everyday that I get to take my Bay boat out in the Gulf for some action but when I get a chance……………. I’m gone!!

Today I guided Jeremy Mangan, Carlos Pena, Chris and Faith Preslar on a 6 hour Gulf trip! We started at about 7 miles South East of the Pass and quickly started boating large ARS. Not that much of a surprise, what was a surprise was the two 6lb Black Snapper that we caught on the next two drops! We continued to fight the Snapper for an hour or two then switched gears and headed for bigger things.

The last few trips out I have had great results on a nearshore wreck loaded with AJ’s. Our first drop resulted in two 35″ jacks, we repeated this pattern for the remainder of the trip, catching our limit of Jacks three times over before we decided to call it quits. While fishing the Jacks we did manage to land a legal Gag and had several triple hook ups on the Jacks! Today was as fun as a trip can be.

I had a great group today who were more interested in catch and release, so we only kept enough for dinner. What a great group to fish with and great fish to catch! I can’t wait till Snapper season!!
