Another day, another Inshore Slam with South Again charters!! Today I guided Ben on a six hour trip. We met at Shoreline Park early in anticipation of catching a good Trout bite in Santa Rosa Sound. We started out throwing Topwaters and Mirrodines in 3′-5′ 0f water and found a really consistent bite. Unfortunately the fish were mostly 12″-14″ fish and a barely keeper mixed in occasionally. We worked the grass flats from the Sound to Big Lagoon boating around 18 to 20 trout and a slot redfish by 9 o’clock.

We then switched gears and went in to Flounder mode. The Flounder seem to have started to move out of the deeper water in the Pass the last few days so we targeted them on Docks and Piers. The bite was very slow and we were only able to land two small fish to put in the cooler. The catfish seem to have moved in thick on all my favorite structure so we changed gears again and went for our Redfish.

After a few blank drifts we finally got bit. We managed a double header of Slot fish and called it a day. The tide is a little off right now and the bite is not as hot as it has been in the last few weeks. But we managed to fight and put a nice cooler full of fish together for Ben and his family!

Kind of a slow day today but we made it happen. Today I guided Brady and Anthony on a quick four hour trip. We had planned to run offshore and catch a quick limit of Snapper but an early morning storm kept us in the Pass.

The Reds didin’t want to seem to bite at first but after an hour we did manage four good bites. We broke off two and the hook pulled on another. It just wasn’t our day for reds. There was very little tide movement today and those fish are 100% tide driven. After that we cruised over to my favorite Flounder hole and boated 6 fish before it was time to head back in!!!

Not the day I had hoped for but we managed to boat a nice mess of fish and return home safely!!

Another fun day on the water!! Today I fished with Kendall, Kristan, Karly, James and Olivia on a short little four hour trip! We left Galvez landing at a round 9:30 am and shot off to Pensacola Pass. Once we arrived the tide had started to go slack and I knew this was gonna be a tough trip!

We first tried to get a Bull red but they had just were not biting!! I had been telling the Kids the whole ride out how big they were so I was a little bummed out that they had shut down by the time we got there. After wasting an hour on the reds we moved over to try and start catching a few Flounder, we quickly boated one and then went into Snapper and Soap Fish mode for a while. It was very difficult to stay pinned to my plan knowing that the tide had stopped and the bite wouldn’t pick up for an hour or so.

Shortly after, the tide started to slowly trickle back out and the bite started to come alive. We boated a few more Flounder, lost a few more Flounder and caught more catfish then I have seen in the Pass in quite a while. After the tide stated to move good and we got close to time to call it quits. I decided to add a free hour on to the end of the trip to try and land that Bull red I had been telling everyone about. Sure enough third drift through the Pass she hit!!!! It was a perfect 22lb fish on 10lb Braid that gave us fits trying to get on the boat! It was a fun trip despite a slow bite and I never grow tired of the questions that Young ones came come up with while on the water!!!!

It’s not everyday that I get to take my Bay boat out in the Gulf for some action but when I get a chance……………. I’m gone!!

Today I guided Jeremy Mangan, Carlos Pena, Chris and Faith Preslar on a 6 hour Gulf trip! We started at about 7 miles South East of the Pass and quickly started boating large ARS. Not that much of a surprise, what was a surprise was the two 6lb Black Snapper that we caught on the next two drops! We continued to fight the Snapper for an hour or two then switched gears and headed for bigger things.

The last few trips out I have had great results on a nearshore wreck loaded with AJ’s. Our first drop resulted in two 35″ jacks, we repeated this pattern for the remainder of the trip, catching our limit of Jacks three times over before we decided to call it quits. While fishing the Jacks we did manage to land a legal Gag and had several triple hook ups on the Jacks! Today was as fun as a trip can be.

I had a great group today who were more interested in catch and release, so we only kept enough for dinner. What a great group to fish with and great fish to catch! I can’t wait till Snapper season!!

Not many trips on the books this weekend so we decided to go have some fun night fishing. After a short run from the launch and at our first stop, we could see the trout popping the baits in all the docks we could see.

We pinned down on the first one and quickly started catching trout. We were rigging 10lb braid to 20lb flourocarbon leader and tying that off to a small OWNER 1/0 Mutu Light circle hook. Freelining the shrimp in and around the dock lights produced tons of strikes. We caught 4 legal trout a 29″ redfish and a few smaller trout all in the first hour!!!

After that we started moving around alot, every dock we stopped at produced fish. Some docks seemed to hold only smaller while some seemed to hold all keepers. It was fun few hours on the water and a very easy way to catch a few fish for the table!!

South Again Charters will be offering Night Fishing trips all Summer long. This is a very fun way to have some fun and catch a nice mess of fish and at the same time beat the Summer heat!

Another Day, another redfish!! Thats really been the story of the week! Today I guided Dan Precourt and his Son in Law Gus Duran on a 6 hour trip to the Pass!! The focus was again the giant Bull reds and then finish on some Flounder!

First drop in the Pass we had a red on. It didn’t take us long to get into the groove of things when the fish eat as soon as your bait hits the bottom. We caught quite a few reds in the first couple hours of our trip including three over the 20lb mark!! One which was Gus’ biggest fish ever! Once the tide started dumping good I decided to make the move to start whacking on the Flounder, bad move!!! The Flounder just would not give it up for me today!!! Great water movement, great bait and a good location, still a slow bite. We did manage to land four really nice fish. Just not the numbers I have been on the last few trips.

While fighting the good fight against the lock jawed Flounders we did manage to catch two Gag’s, one red grouper, three red snapper and a dang near legal Scamp. All in all another great day fishing and another great day to be a Guide!!!
